Record Exhibitor Turnout Highlights Strong Demand for International Student Talent at Jobs Expo
Held on 22 April 2026 at the Hilton Darwin, the Study NT Careers and Jobs Expo brought together 30 exhibitors and attracted closed to 170 international students, reinforcing the Northern Territory (NT)’s commitment to connecting international students with local employment opportunities.
The Expo provided international students with direct access to employers across key sectors, offering insights into career pathways, current and future job opportunities, and the skills in demand in the NT.
Deputy CEO of the Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations (DTBAR), Kelly Ralston, said the event plays an important role in supporting both the international student experience and the Territory’s businesses.
“The NT Government recognises employability as a vital part of the international student experience. The Study NT Careers and Jobs Expo highlights our commitment to supporting international students while positioning the NT as a great place to study, live and work, at the same time, connecting Territory employers with skilled, motivated students.” said Ms Ralston.
The Expo aligns with the NT Government’s Rebuilding the Economy priority, supporting business growth and workforce sustainability by encouraging international students to build their careers locally after graduation.
Industry representatives and employers from sectors including health, community services, engineering, education, IT, hospitality and accounting engaged directly with students, highlighting the vital role international graduates play in filling vacancies, especially in skill‑shortage areas across the Territory.
“The Study NT Careers and Jobs Expo was a great opportunity to meet talented international students from across the Territory”, said Louise Morrison from CatholicCare NT, one of the exhibitors.
“The event was well organised, with excellent space and flow, creating a welcoming atmosphere. We were impressed by how prepared and engaged the students were, and we had strong interest in both graduate and casual roles.”, she added.
For the first time, the Expo also featured dedicated information sessions, with presenters sharing:
- practical tips on writing effective CVs and cover letters
- insights into NT Government early careers programs
- information on migration pathways in the NT.
Panitraa Esvaran, a student from Charles Darwin University (CDU), said she found the event both insightful and engaging, and valued the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and gain a clearer understanding of potential career pathways.
“If I had to describe the event in one word, it would be enriching,” Ms Esvaran said, adding that it provided valuable guidance and practical insights for her future in speech pathology.
Study NT looks forward to building on this success and continuing to deliver initiatives that support international students, employers, and the Territory’s long‑term economic growth.
