Meet Shiraz
I completed by Bachelor in Software Engineering in Nepal and then moved to the United States to pursue a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, where I studied and worked for four years. While working as a software engineer in one of the fast-paced tech companies in the United States, I learned the importance of cybersecurity and its growing importance and started to look for a formal education in it.
As my search began, I knew I wanted to live in a different country and broaden my experience, so I chose Australia. After much searching, I finally selected Charles Darwin University (CDU) as it provided one of the best courses for cybersecurity. I researched more into the place and found Darwin and the Northern Territory to be something I have not experienced yet. Even though the population of the NT is less than other states in Australia, I found the government directly collaborates with the university and students, which opens a whole lot of opportunities. As someone who has studied, lived and worked in the NT for some time, I’ve realised I really love the environment, and the people are friendly, kind and laidback. Additionally, the presence of international communities helps international students like me to feel like home.
I am fortunate to lead the CDU Cybersecurity Club and CDU IoT Club as President. An amazing moment was winning the GovHack 2023 in the category “using AI to better connect Northern Territory science with the community” which was sponsored by the Northern Territory Government.
As a Study NT Student Ambassador, I am excited to walk on this journey, which I believe will be both challenging and transformative. I look forward to sharing my journey with the wonderful people who are looking to study and live in the Northern Territory.
