Teach in the Territory
If you're an international student looking to build your teaching career and are in your final year placement, you could be eligible for the Accelerated Classroom Teacher Practice Program (Accelerated Program). This is a great way to gain practical experience, get paid and maximise your opportunities for employment prior to graduation.
The Department of Education and Training and the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory (TRB) have worked with Charles Darwin University (CDU) and interstate universities to develop the Accelerated Program. The Program aims to assist schools in filling vacancies by making preservice teachers available to the workforce prior to graduation. If you are a preservice teacher ready to complete your final placement, you may be eligible to be employed at a school to fill a vacancy and receive a salary. Your placement as a preservice teacher is determined by the specific requirements of the initial teacher education (ITE) course you are completing.
Through the program, you will complete your final placement while working as a teacher and be paid an authorised person equal to 0.6 full time equivalent (FTE) or 0.8 FTE 3 or 4 days per week. An extension of placement dates is required to account for the reduced teaching load. The reduced FTE is to ensure you as the preservice teacher is given every chance for success.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be paid a salary whilst you satisfy your final placement requirements. In addition to the valuable experiences and mentor support you will receive, the Accelerated Program enables you to build relationships with students, staff, and school leadership.
