Meet Thamashi Patabandige

Thamashi

From childhood, I have been passionate about science and sharing my discoveries with others, which has fuelled my desire to become an educator. After earning my Bachelor of Science in Sri Lanka, I worked as a science teacher at an international school where I faced challenges in effectively conveying scientific concepts. This experience inspired me to enhance my teaching skills through further study.

I decided to apply to Charles Darwin University because it has received recognition and high rankings in various areas. These rankings indicate that CDU is considered a reputable institution for education and employment outcomes. It offers a range of units under the Master of Teaching (Secondary) program that help me improve my abilities, strategies, and attitudes to foster favourable growth and learning in future students. Their courses are authorized by the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory, so I can be sure to receive a well-respected certification.

Studying in Darwin will give me a variety of teaching opportunities that would be hard to find elsewhere, including in towns, rural areas, and Indigenous communities, thereby preparing me with the essential skills I need to be a teacher.

Teachers are in high demand in the Northern Territory, particularly in remote areas where there is still a significant shortage. Therefore, earning my Master of Teaching in Darwin increases my chances of getting job assignments, be it in regional or metropolitan area during my post-study work period.

The Study in Australia’s Northern Territory Scholarship is a perfect match for my goal of advancing my knowledge in teaching. This scholarship would help me focus entirely on my Master’s program without financial concerns, allowing me to engage in studies that will contribute to the Northern Territory’s education workforce.
