Top End crowned #1 place to visit in Australia for 2026!

In an exciting start to the New Year, the Northern Territory has been named the #1 place to visit in Australia and the 14th in the world for 2026 by the annual New York Times' Places to Go travel list.
This ranking is a testament to our region's unique landscapes, vibrant communities, and exciting lifestyle, but it is our cultural richness that makes the Territory stand out amongst our southern counterparts.

The New York Times's article shone a light on the natural wonders of the Northern Territory, including the "crown jewel" of the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park, Gunlom Falls, a stunning 168-metre-high infinity pool and picturesque waterfall recently re-opened to the public by the area's traditional owners, the Jawoyn people.

Our abundance of Aboriginal rock-art sites was also highlighted, along with our soon-to-open Larrakia Cultural Centre overlooking the Darwin Harbour at the foot of a sacred site. The centre will explore the history of the Larrakia people, their art, music and artefacts, and will offer interactive workshops for weaving, painting and spear making.

If you or your loved ones have been considering coming to the NT... this is your sign to do so!
