Meet Niju
My experience in this beautiful part of Australia has been extraordinary, filled with opportunities to volunteer, innovate, and grow as a person. When I first arrived in the Northern Territory (NT), I was struck by the natural wonders and welcoming community that embraced me with open arms. I was inspired by the communities' respect for the Aboriginal land and their ancestors, and people's willingness to help those in need. My desire to make a positive impact found fertile ground. I quickly became involved in volunteer work, starting with the "Kindness Shake" initiative that aimed to spread positivity and kindness in the local community. This experience humbled me and ignited a deep passion for giving back to the community and positively impacting people's lives.
Motivated by my volunteer work, I eagerly joined the renowned GovHack event. It was an exhilarating experience that challenged me to think creatively, problem-solve, and work as a team, further fuelling my passion for using my skills to make a tangible difference in the community. In addition, I became an executive member of the Women's Collective in Innovation and Change (WCIC), an empowering student group that promotes gender equality and diversity in STEM fields. Through WCIC, I found a supportive community of fellow innovators who encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and strive for excellence. I had the opportunity to contribute to impactful projects, learn from inspiring individuals, and develop invaluable skills that have shaped me into who I am today.
My efforts and dedication were recognised when I became a finalist in the esteemed Charles Darwin University (CDU) International Student Award. This acknowledgment reaffirmed my commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and cultural integration in the NT. The NT is where my miracles began, and I am excited to continue my journey of contributing to the vibrant community that has become my home away from home, and has shaped me into a more compassionate, resilient, and socially conscious individual.
