Meet Akshata Bhusal

Before coming to Australia, I spent nearly eight years at a boarding school in Kathmandu, where living away from home from a young age helped shape my independence, resilience, and adaptability — qualities that supported my confident transition into life in the Northern Territory.
I moved to Darwin two years ago, and it has been an incredible place to study, grow, and feel connected. I love exploring Darwin’s unique spots and vibrant community, and I’m constantly excited by how much there is to learn and experience. There is always something new to discover, and one of my favourite pastimes is watching movies at the Deckchair Cinema, which perfectly reflects the relaxed yet lively NT lifestyle.
I am a Charles Darwin University (CDU) IT Code Fair Ambassador and actively volunteer with Multicultural Youth NT, as well as other community and CDU student clubs. Through these roles, I am passionate about supporting young people and contributing to inclusive, culturally diverse spaces. When I’m not volunteering or studying, you’ll usually find me chasing sunsets with my camera, listening to music, exploring hidden gems around Darwin, or enjoying a great bowl of laksa.
Being part of Study NT is a true honour, and I am excited to share the Northern Territory (NT)’s incredible opportunities, strong sense of community, and unique lifestyle with students from around the world.
As Taylor Swift sings, “We’re happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time,” and that perfectly captures how I feel about life in Darwin — each day is filled with discovery, laughter, connection, and the excitement of meeting people from all over the world.
