Meet Ivan Nieto

I’m Ivan Nieto, a Colombian who arrived in Australia with his wife and two suitcases full of dreams in 2023. We lived on the Gold Coast for almost a year. Then we decided to move to the Northern Territory, driving from Queensland for over a month, stopping at different stunning places, and enjoying the wonder of taking a road trip in Australia. We were attracted by the region’s unique diversity and the opportunity to engage with its rich Indigenous culture. I was born and raised in Bucaramanga, Colombia, and my curiosity to explore new cultures and landscapes led us to decide to move to Darwin. The region's rich Indigenous heritage and focus on innovation and engineering opportunities seemed like the ideal place for my personal and academic growth.
The combination of cultural diversity, professional opportunities, and a strong sense of community makes living here a truly enriching experience.
The Northern Territory offers vast amazing experiences, the sunsets in Darwin are astonishing and the breathtaking lightning during storms, as nature lovers, fascinates us all the time. What I value most about life in the Northern Territory is the kindness of the people and the opportunity to contribute to positive change in the region. Moving here has not only expanded my academic and professional perspectives but has also made me more open-minded. My wish is to contribute even more and help the community through my role as an international student.
For international students looking to find purpose in Australia, the Northern Territory is the perfect place to get that purpose and grow both personally and professionally.
