Meet Engelo
Australia was the first country I travelled to abroad in 2017, as a working holiday maker. During my time in Australia, I visited Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide where I worked in jobs such as being a kitchen hand, waiter, and childcare helper.
In 2018, I moved to Nhulunbuy, Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, to work in a restaurant as a waiter and as an educator in a childcare centre. I loved living in Australia, but due to COVID, I went back to Indonesia to work as a teacher in a primary school.
After COVID restrictions ended, I planned to go back to Australia to study childcare because I wanted to learn more about educating young children. I chose Darwin as my study destination, due to it being close to home, which means I can go back to Indonesia any time. Darwin also has the same weather as my home, an island called Flores, as well as nice people who live in diversity, and lots of places to explore. I chose to study childcare because, when I finish my studies, I’d like to go back home and open my own childcare centre, and educate and encourage more young people in my village to become educators. I am grateful to be studying in Darwin and living in a destination with such multiculturalism.
