Meet Deepak
I have been studying away from home since the age of 14, when I studied in a high school in Kathmandu. After this, I received a scholarship from the Indian government to pursue my undergraduate studies in India. Life then took an unexpected turn, giving me the opportunity to travel to Australia, where I’m now pursuing my post-graduate degree in accounting at Charles Darwin University and enjoying a relaxed lifestyle in the land of ancient Aboriginal culture.
Being an old soul, I love to be in a state of absolute peace and tranquillity. On the search for my education destination, I was allured by the relaxed lifestyle offered in regional Australia. Having spent most of my life in a tropical climate, my body finds adapting to cold weather challenging, so Darwin ticked the box in terms of climate and health. When I did research into student life in Darwin, various supportive initiatives from the Northern Territory (NT) Government towards international students, like the student ambassador program, awards and scholarships, made Darwin stand out.
Regarding career opportunities, the NT Government’s graduate programs and Charles Darwin University’s active Careers Centre team (with their frequent employability events) drew me even more to this city. All these factors ultimately made me come to the Northern Territory and Darwin.
I’ve plunged into the vast serenity of this city. Sitting before the waves at Cullen Bay with the sea breeze blowing past, watching the sunset, while jogging the length of Bicentennial Park, sitting on the cliffs of Darwin Harbour, have been some of my most calming experiences. I just love this place.
