Meet Thoi Dang

Hello!
My name is Thoi, and I am from Vietnam. I am currently studying the Master of Public Health/Master of Health Research at Charles Darwin University in Australia’s Northern Territory.
Before coming to the NT, I spent more than 15 years working as a lecturer at Quy Nhon University in Vietnam. My academic journey began in economics and finance, later expanding into educational leadership. Over the years, I realised that while academic performance is important, student and staff wellbeing is equally critical to sustainable educational development. This realisation gradually shaped my long-term academic vision.
Choosing to pursue public health and health research was therefore a purposeful decision. This program is a significant stepping stone toward my future doctoral studies. It equips me with rigorous research training, advanced methodological skills, and interdisciplinary perspectives that allow me to examine wellbeing not only from an educational lens but also from a population health perspective. My goal is to contribute to evidence-based policies and wellbeing frameworks that support students and academic staff in higher education institutions.
I chose to study in the Northern Territory because of its strong focus on community wellbeing, health equity, and research addressing regional and diverse populations. The NT provides a unique context to understand how social, cultural, and environmental factors influence wellbeing outcomes. These insights are especially meaningful for my future work, as universities worldwide increasingly prioritise mental health and psychosocial support.
Living in the NT has also felt surprisingly familiar. The tropical climate is similar to my hometown in Vietnam, helping me adapt quickly. At the same time, the Territory’s multicultural community and inclusive environment have broadened my global perspective. I am truly excited to continue building my academic journey at Charles Darwin University and to contribute meaningfully to the vibrant community of the Northern Territory.
