Meet Amila Kasun Sampath Udage Kankanamge

Amila Kasun Sampath Udage Kankanamge
Amila Kasun Sampath Udage Kankanamge from Sri Lanka, is studying a Doctor of Philosophy at Charles Darwin University.

Amila launched the “Research Beginners Club” after identifying a lack of structured peer mentoring to strengthen research capability of students. He has also assisted his peers in transitioning into the workforce by recommending over 20 international students to the management of Jaymatt Care Services, organising regular staff gatherings and created peer-support network.

As a Project Coordinator for Helping Regional Communities Prepare for Drought in Katherine, Amila recruited and coached international student volunteers to coordinate, promote, and translate during the project, giving them their first experience on a large community project in the Northern Territory.

He also co-founded "Triarc", role-modelling how international students can look beyond their degrees to engage in the NT’s community, leadership, and business ecosystem.

Well done, Amila and best wishes with your nomination!
