Meet Ayumi

Ayumi

Hi everyone! My name is Ayumi and I am from Yokohama, Japan.

I moved to Darwin in April 2022 to start a new chapter of my life. I am currently in the final year of a Master of Professional Accounting at Charles Darwin University (CDU). My background lies in sustainability and intercultural communication, and now I am trying to combine these with accounting and finance to enhance my skills.

While studying hard to become an accountant in Darwin, I am trying to contribute to community engagements through volunteering activities. I am volunteering for several organisations including Kindness Shake, the Australian Japanese Association in the Northern Territory, and CDU Women’s Collective for Innovation and Change (WCIC). Through those activities, I have met many warm-hearted people here in this warm/tropical climate, and made a wonderful network and friends.

I really love putting myself in a diverse environment where I can meet people with different backgrounds, learn about various beautiful cultures, and appreciate the diversity of the world we live in. Darwin has offered me the perfect place and opportunity to do this; trying different kinds of cuisine in Darwin is my most favorite thing!

Ever since I arrived, I also started enjoying the beautiful sunsets and laid-back environment. It is very refreshing to take a walk to the beach and see Darwin’s very unique and beautiful scenery between studies.

The NT has given me one of the most precious experiences in my life, which I could not get anywhere else, through quality education, a warm and welcoming community, and a relaxing and laid-back lifestyle.

I am thankful to every single person that I have met in Darwin, and to especially the NT Government. Now, I feel like it is my turn to contribute to the NT through various activities.
