Meet SAMAF Accountants & Consultants
SAMAF was established by two CDU international students, who during the beginnings of covid had lost their jobs and could see the impact it was having on their fellow students in which they pondered ‘What can we do to help?’. Since its establishment SAMAF has had a strong focus on supporting international students throughout their studies and with their ongoing success post-graduation.
Through the CDU Tax Clinic Program in which SAMAF manages, both undergraduate and postgraduate accounting students have access to the mentoring and expertise of the senior members of SAMAF. This program allows those students (under supervision) to provide free taxation services to other students, small businesses, not-for-profit organisations, and charities. This program has been running for three years and is contracted for another three, servicing Darwin, Katherine, and Alice Springs. Through this program, these students have an opportunity to enter SAMAF’s internship program. SAMAF has now had 30 interns move through and onto further success, and currently has 10 interns in 2022. Working with students and new graduates allows SAMAF to provide them with the skills and experience necessary when working in the Northern Territory. SAMAF currently employs 10 staff who are all individuals of international student background.
To further benefit the community, SAMAF has established partnerships with Melaleuca Refugee Centre, STEPS Education and Training Services, and Menzies School of health research which allows them to provide upskilling training sessions in over 10 languages. Having come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds themselves Mr Dhirani and Mr Mletsin understand the importance of providing accurate financial information to those whose first language is not English. With the bonus that they are both multilingual and can deliver these trainings themselves.
SAMAF additionally supports both the international student community and the wider community through its sponsorship, consultation and establishment support of the following programs, charities, organisations, and community groups.
