Meet Ben

I’m passionate about connecting cultures and helping people transform their lives. Originally from Colombia, I firmly believe that education is the most potent weapon for changing the world. Currently, I’m pursuing my last year of the Bachelor of Accounting and aim to start a Master of Public Policy at CDU in March 2019.

Being an international student, culture shock and language barriers were the largest challenges that I had to face. However, with the support from the staff at Charles Darwin University (CDU), as well as a good company of friends, I was able to overcome this hurdle. CDU has an amazing faculty, with friendly and supportive staff who is always there to lend a hand. In addition, the various accommodation facilities such as UniLodge, are top of the range.

Prior to the commencement of my degree, I studied a preparatory English course at Navitas English. As Spanish is my first language, that training and discipline has really helped me out and seen me through.

During my free time, I enjoy playing soccer, as well as working out in the gym. Lastly, having a good network of friends from various backgrounds has really enriched my experience in Australia. I enjoyed learning about their culture and ways of life.

I hold several positions in organisations mainly focused on the needs of students:

  • - President of the CDU Students’ Association
  • - National Secretary of the Council of International Students Australia
  • - Student Ambassador of CDU, CPA and StudyNT
  • - Student Services Manager of Navitas English Darwin (at CDU).

I’m also the winner of the 2018 StudyNT International Student of the Year Award.
